The records of Barbara Acklin were the epitome of the Chicago soul sound of the late 60s and early 70s, and it makes sense because as a successful songwriter in the Chicago scene, she helped to shape that sound. She is probably best known for her hits “Love Makes A Woman” and “Am I the Same Girl” but she also cowrote some soul masterpieces for other artists. Listen:
